Project Description

Founded in 2010, EVBox stepped onto the scene when the market for electric vehicles was still in its infancy. The company founders predicted that demand for charging infrastructure would skyrocket and set their sights on a clear concept: a fully modular charging station that’s easy to use and that can stand the test of time.

In 2017, the company was acquired by the energy utility company and global service provider, ENGIE, who identified EVBox as a disruptive cleantech scale-up making an impact in the fast-growing electric mobility industry.

The Background

After the acquisition by ENGIE the company were primed and ready to scale up. The first steps in internationalisation were to set up companies and to build sales and delivery teams in the UK and Germany. After discussions and meetings with the CEO Kristof Vereenooghe, and COO Peter van Praet, Hyperion were retained to recruit the MD for each country, and the sales and operations teams to support them. These hires were successfully made.

Strategic Introduction

During the course of our recruitment for the UK and Germany we had many discussions with the CEO about the future direction and ambitions of EVBox. During these confidential conversations future markets, sales channels and geographies were discussed. This enabled us to be aware of some of the future hiring needs of the company as they set about rapid scale-up. The emobility sector is one we know very well, and one in which we have a very strong network. During a conversation with an exceptionally well-connected A-player in the automotive sector, where he shared his future aspirations and ideal next career move, we connected some dots and made a confidential introduction between him and the CEO at EVBox.

The Outcome

Although the timing was not yet what the company had in mind, a focus on the Automotive OEM sector was part of their future plans. Knowing this we contacted the CEO to share the experience, capabilities and cultural fit of the candidate we had in mind. An exploratory conversation was arranged. As expected, the fit was perfect, in terms of experience and cultural fit. Further discussions and meetings took place quickly, after which a global role was created for the individual we introduced. We know that he has gone on to have a very significant positive impact on the business.

Testimonials

David Hunt and Hyperion have been involved in several high-level recruitments for EVBox, both in the UK as well as other European countries. Professional, thorough and consistently going the extra mile are but just a few reasons that we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Hyperion Search when recruiting new staff.
