Hello. We are Hyperion Executive Search and we’d like you to get to know us better.
Following my colleague Jon Rose’s intro last week, I’d like to touch on who we are and why growing companies in the cleantech sector partner with us. Going back to our humble beginnings, Hyperion Executive Search was formed back in 2014, in the boom years of the UK solar industry. Our CEO David Hunt started the business with a clear purpose that still remains:
To find the best people, for the best companies, achieving the best results, for the best possible future of the clean energy and mobility transition.
The sectors we work in have evolved as technology and innovation have advanced. The UK Solar industry was our initial focus, a sector we are still incredibly passionate about – prior to forming Hyperion, David Hunt and myself built a renewable energy installation business with solar as its core offering. Hyperion’s first year saw us partner with SMA, Sungrow and Q-Cells (who we still work with to this day!) to build their UK teams. As markets shifted, we established ourselves in the energy storage sector and started to work with more international clients such as sonnen and LG Chem. The huge rise in E-Mobility over the last couple of years has created massive opportunities for growth. We’ve worked with the pioneers of EV charging EVBox, Alfen and Chargepoint to recruit their ever-growing teams across Europe as well as pre-revenue start-up ride-hailing business Splyt. As well as recruiting C-Level, Director and Management positions, across commercial, technical and engineering disciplines, we’ve frequently gone on to recruit their support teams.
- Case study: Having been acquired by ENGIE in 2017, EVBox set their sights on rapid international expansion. They initially came to Hyperion to recruit the Managing Directors for their new UK and German businesses. After we successfully recruited these leaders, we then recruited their teams including Business Development Managers, Business Development Representatives and Technical Support Engineers.
As well as expanding our sector coverage, we have increased our international reach. Having worked with clients in Germany for the last couple of years, we opened our German office in Munich in August of this year, headed up by Wolfgang Kick. Over the last year, the USA has become a major focus for us too, working with developers, IPPs, owners and operators of energy storage and wind energy projects. Look out for our new US office which is coming soon…..
What exactly do we do?
Put simply: We help our clients find the key talent they need to achieve their growth objectives. We work with global clients to recruit the very best individuals and teams throughout EMEA and North America.
And why do the most innovative companies in cleantech partner with us?
- We have a Deep Sector Knowledge, providing our clients with access to the best hidden candidates. 86% of the people we place are not actively seeking a new role.
- With our Extensive Global Network, we act as our client’s eyes and ears in a rapidly changing international market. We build our network by attending, exhibiting and speaking at the major industry events and exhibitions.
- We work Exclusively in Clean Technology, sharing our client’s passion for a sustainable future.
- We have a Proven Track Record, giving our clients confidence we can deliver.
Like all companies, we think we’re awesome but here’s what some of our clients have to say about us:
‘Hyperion have been involved in several high-level recruitments for EVBox, both in the UK as well as other European countries. Professional, thorough and consistently going the extra mile are but just a few reasons that we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Hyperion Search when recruiting new staff’
Peter Van Praet, CCO EVBox
‘The Hyperion team stand out in this industry as professional and highly experienced with the ability to understand an assignment from all angles, and manage the process with an exceptional degree of dedication‘
Karl Anders, Managing Director/CEO innogy eMobility
I have mentioned partnering a few times in this post, establishing a genuine partnership with our clients is key for us. We are a retained search business, that means that our clients work exclusively with us on specific searches. This level of commitment works both ways. Our clients have one firm who are totally committed and accountable to solving their problems. This also means we are 100% focused on finding the very best candidates for their roles, the cleantech rockstars! 76% of the candidates we place are with existing long-term clients. This demonstrates the true value of the partnerships we have.
In the next part of this blog series you’ll be hearing from Jon Rose again as he’ll be exploring how we understand our clients and tell their story in the market.
